Welcome to autism, aka Wurm Unlimited. This game is best enjoyed with long sessions over long periods of time. Its essentially an MMO private server for a game that was launched in 2003. If you're pining for the old mmo feel of an unexplored world and unrestricted player freedom, this is as close as it gets.
Note: before logging in, if you would like to have the ingame map working with your client, please check the Client Configuration page to learn how to modify your client.
When you first log in, you'll be able to set up your appearance and be spawned into the starting area. The game starts with a pretty straightforward tutorial to cover movement/interacting with the world. It's not the greatest, but I'd advise new players go as far as you can in it without asking for help. If you'd rather learn on your own, you can type /skiptutorial in your chatbox to unlock everything and move on.

Build a Large Cart
Building your first large cart is the real tutorial. Doing so shows a basic understanding of most of the processes for doing anything in Wurm. Even experienced players usually build a large cart as their first goal on a fresh server, as the mobility and storage are hard to beat early on.
Note about the wiki: Wurm Unlimited was abandoned by the devs on Nov 2019. Since then, they have continued to update Wurm Online, which is their subscription based mmo. The wiki has continued to update with content from Online that is NOT in Unlimited. If you are looking at something in the wiki that doesn't seem to be in the game, check the date it was added. Example: Magranon's Fire is listed on the wiki but is not in Wurm Unlimited, and was added to the wiki in Jan 2021.
